Selling – Auctioning your coins
Van Acker Coin Auctions is a Belgian auction house specialising in coins, medals and banknotes.
We hold auctions four times a year, with between 1,000 and 2,500 lots going under the hammer each time. We send out digital catalogues both domestically and abroad. This ensures the smooth sale of your collection at fair prices, although surprises can never be ruled out.
A 20 per cent commission is charged for consignments. This covers everything: processing and lot preparation, photographs, administration… The remainder of the proceeds is therefore entirely yours. For gold coins, we charge a commission of 10 per cent.
We take care of all the formalities for you, arrange secure transport, insure your consignment, keep you informed (before and after the auction) and guarantee prompt payment.

Submitting your coins
You can submit both individual coins and collections for auction. We are an auction house specialising in collectors’ items and do not impose a minimum value per consignment.
Free, no-obligation valuation
We always start by asking for a description of the collection or photos of the most important items. To do this, please contact us on 0486 645 305 or via bart@vanacker.eu Based on this, we will provide you with a free, no-obligation initial valuation and a proposal to arrange a meeting. This can take place at our office in Antwerp or Sint Pauwels, or at your home.
Agreement
A consignment document will be drawn up containing your details, the auction date, the agreed terms and conditions, a description of the collection including the most important individual items, and the estimated value. This serves as your proof of consignment, and from that moment onwards your consignment is also insured for this amount. Our commission on sale is 10 per cent of the hammer price for gold coins, or 20 per cent of the hammer price for other coins. This covers all costs; there are no further charges for you as the consignor. Even if we include your items in our promotional material (advertisements, newsletters, etc.), there are no further charges. If desired, upon signing the agreement, we can transfer an advance on the expected proceeds based on the valuation.
Description and prices
Once the agreement has been signed, we will set to work processing your collection into lots. We provide a professional and detailed description with an accurate assessment of quality. In addition, we arrange for professional photography and the production of an electronic catalogue. The price is set by us, naturally in consultation with you for the key items. The starting price is the minimum price: we do not sell below the starting price and we do not operate with hidden minimums.
Auction
Before the auction, you will receive a detailed list of your lots by email, along with the times at which they will be auctioned. A week before the auction, there are viewing days, during which collectors can come and view the coins under supervision. From three weeks before the auction date, you can follow the progress of the auction on the website www.vanacker.eu, and you can, of course, follow it live during the auction days. This means that both before and during the auction, you can check whether any bids have already been placed on your lots, what the current price is, and at what price your lots are being sold. We also advertise the auction on the leading international auction platforms to reach as many interested collectors as possible. We are also a regular advertiser in numismatic magazines and attend numismatic fairs.
Results and Unsold Lots
After the auction, you will receive a list detailing the proceeds from your consignment, itemised by lot. This is usually provided in two stages: an initial list a few days after the auction, subject to verification, and a final list around ten days after the auction. Unsold lots are offered at their reserve price for a further 14 days after the auction. After this period, unsold lots can be collected, or we will re-offer them (at a reduced price or, if necessary, as part of sets) at the next auction.
Payment
Payment for your lots will be made 3 weeks after the auction date, unless they have not yet been paid for by the buyer. If you have received an advance payment, this will be deducted.
